Create a Multi Item Batch

The setup supports a saved Picking Cart or manual batch settings.

Use a Picking Cart

  1. Choose Select Picking Cart.
  2. Select an available cart in the current warehouse.
  3. Review its tote capacity and minimum/maximum units per order.
  4. Link an empty, unassigned tote to every cart slot by scanning or selecting it.
  5. Select merchant filters when applicable.
  6. Optionally assign a picker.
  7. Click Start Picking Session.

The selected cart pre-fills the batch limits. Every cart slot must have a linked tote before the session can be created.

Define the batch manually

  1. Choose Define Manually.
  2. Enter the Number of Totes.
  3. Optionally set Min Units Per Order and Max Units Per Order.
  4. Select merchant filters when applicable.
  5. Optionally assign a picker.
  6. Click Start Picking Session.

Each tote in a Multi Item Batch is assigned to one fulfillment order.

Create a Single Item Batch

A Single Item Batch selects single-SKU orders that can be picked into one shared tote.

  1. Choose Single Item Batch (SIB).
  2. Enter the Number of Orders.
  3. Select merchant filters when applicable.
  4. Optionally assign a picker.
  5. Click Start Picking Session.

Use SIB when many orders contain the same single product and do not need separate pick totes.

Assign and open sessions

A session can be assigned during creation or left unassigned. Unassigned sessions appear under the Unassigned view and can be assigned or started by an eligible picker later.

Open a session on the web to review its orders, assignment, cart positions, issues, and progress. Scan the displayed QR code to open the same session in the mobile picking workflow.

Picking configuration

Warehouse configuration controls how eligible orders and pick-list lines are ordered.

Order sorting

  • Priority, then oldest first
  • SLA deadline first
  • Priority, then SLA deadline
  • Oldest first

Pick-list sorting

  • Location
  • Product SKU

Batch optimization

  • Manual selection order
  • Optimize by location
  • Optimize by location prefix
  • Optimize by fulfill-by date, then priority

Other picking configuration can control FEFO behavior, exclude single-SKU orders from Multi Item Batches, or restrict selection to orders due today or earlier.

See Configuration.

Pick on mobile

The mobile workflow guides the picker through:

  1. The next product and source location
  2. The required quantity and UoM context
  3. The destination tote or shared SIB tote
  4. Progress across the session

Scan the product or location, confirm the quantity, and scan the destination tote when prompted. ShipOS records the pick and advances to the next allocation.

For a Multi Item Batch using a cart, the cart grid preserves the physical tote position assigned during setup.

Report a picking issue

Use Report an Issue when the planned allocation cannot be picked.

  • Change Location moves the pick to another compatible source when one exists.
  • Quarantine Tote reports the issue at the affected source and adds the unresolved work to the hospital workflow. The tote is transferred later if hospital review is still required.

A location change keeps the order in the active session. Quarantining reports the remaining work at the affected source location. In a Multi Item Batch, that normally affects only the order linked to the tote. In a Single Item Batch, all remaining allocations at that source join one issue group, while allocations at other sources remain pickable. After all unaffected work is complete, fully picked orders continue to packing and the shared tote can move to hospital for the unresolved remainder.

Eligibility

A fulfillment order generally needs to:

  • Belong to the selected warehouse
  • Have an accepted fulfillment request and an eligible status
  • Be ready to ship
  • Have mapped products and sufficient eligible stock
  • Be outside another active fulfillment workflow
  • Match the session's merchant and unit filters

Use Check Picking Eligibility on the fulfillment order when it does not appear in a new session.

Complete or manage a session

The web session page shows assigned and unassigned work, order progress, cart/tote placement, and reported issues. Removing an order releases it from the session according to its current picking state.

After a session closes, open its Performance tab to review total time, total eaches picked, orders per hour, lines per hour, and eaches per hour. A line is one fulfillment-order line regardless of quantity, while eaches are the physical units picked. All three hourly rates use the elapsed time from session start to close.

A picking cart remains In use until all linked totes are packed or moved to a hospital location. The cart then becomes available for another session.
