Job Management

Create custom Labor jobs, understand system jobs, assign workers, and review job activity

A names the kind of work consuming a 's time. starts the recorded time, and the resulting shows when the worker performed that job.

Go to Labor → Jobs (opens the Cybership dashboard in a new tab) and select a warehouse to review its jobs.

Job Types

Available work types follow the ShipOS features enabled for your team and can include:

  • Picking
  • Packing
  • Cycle Counting
  • Receiving
  • Put Away
  • Replenishment
  • Sorting
  • Bulk Ship
  • Water Spider
  • Work Orders
  • Custom

Use the most specific type that describes the work. Performance (opens the Cybership dashboard in a new tab) and Hourly Board (opens the Cybership dashboard in a new tab) comparisons are more useful when unlike tasks are not combined.

System Jobs and Custom Jobs

Job SourcePurposeManagement
SystemStandard warehouse work or work linked to an operational recordMaintained with the related workflow
CustomSite-specific work created by your teamCan be edited, activated, deactivated, or deleted with permission

System jobs carry a System badge. Open a system job from Labor → Jobs (opens the Cybership dashboard in a new tab) to follow its link to the related work order, purchase order, or cycle count.

Do not recreate a system job as a custom job. Doing so separates the time from the operational work it is intended to represent.

Find and Organize Jobs

The job list shows job name, work type, category, expected duration, and status. Use search, filters, and sorting to narrow by:

  • Job name
  • Active or inactive status
  • Work type
  • Category
  • Created or updated date

Select a row on Labor → Jobs (opens the Cybership dashboard in a new tab) to open its detail page. You can also rearrange table columns for the view that best supports your workflow.

Create a Custom Job

  1. Select Create Job.
  2. Enter a clear Job Name.
  3. Choose the Job Type.
  4. Add an optional description.
  5. Add an expected duration in minutes when it is useful for planning.
  6. Select Create Job.

Examples of appropriate custom jobs include training, equipment cleaning, relabeling, quality review, or another recurring activity that is not represented by a linked ShipOS workflow.

Job Detail

The detail page has four views:

TabWhat It Shows
Working NowWorkers currently clocked into this job
Queued NextWorkers whose next job is this job
Work HistoryRecent entries with worker, status, time, duration, warehouse, and notes
DetailsType, status, source, description, expected duration, dates, and system lifecycle

Select a worker from the Working Now or Queued Next tabs to open their detail page. You can also find the worker from Members (opens the Cybership dashboard in a new tab).

System Job Lifecycle

System Job Detail explains how the job is maintained:

  • Standard warehouse jobs remain available for their work type.
  • Work-order jobs follow the related work order.
  • Purchase-order receiving jobs follow the related purchase order and receiving progress.
  • Cycle-count jobs follow the related count.

Use the related-record action when you need to change the underlying work. Automatic tracking for supported standard workflows is managed in Warehouse Configuration.

Edit, Activate, or Deactivate a Job

Use the Job Detail sidebar actions for one custom job.

  • Edit changes the name, type, description, or expected duration.
  • Deactivate removes a job from normal new assignment choices while preserving history.
  • Activate makes an inactive job available again.
  • Delete permanently removes an eligible custom job.

Deactivate a job when you may need its history or plan to reuse it. Delete only when the job was created in error and is safe to remove.

Manage Several Custom Jobs

Select multiple custom jobs in the list, then use the Selected menu to:

  • Activate
  • Deactivate
  • Delete
  • Clear the selection

System jobs cannot be selected for deletion.

Assign Work

Queue One Worker's Next Job

  1. Open the worker.
  2. Choose Assign Next Job.
  3. Select an active job from the correct warehouse.
  4. Confirm the assignment.

The worker appears under Queued Next on the job's detail page. This does not immediately end their current work.

Start Work Now

Use Start Job or Switch Job on Worker Detail when the change should happen immediately. For several workers, select them on the Manager Dashboard (opens the Cybership dashboard in a new tab) and use bulk assignment.

Respond to a Kiosk Job Request

When a worker requests work from the kiosk, open the Labor notification and select Assign Job. The Manager Dashboard (opens the Cybership dashboard in a new tab) opens with the worker ready for assignment.

Expected Duration and Baselines

Expected duration is a planning value stored on the job. Performance dashboards use completed work and available baselines to make historical comparisons. Treat the expected duration as context, not a substitute for collecting representative performance history.

Auto Tracking

Supported ShipOS workflows can start or switch the worker into the matching Labor job. Auto Tracking settings are available for Picking, Packing, Cycle Counting, Receiving, Put Away, and Replenishment.

When inactivity auto-pause is enabled, a successful action in one of those workflows marks that exact auto-tracked entry as eligible and resets its inactivity timer. If the timer expires, the eligible system job ends and the worker moves to No Job while staying clocked in. Merely assigning or manually selecting a system job is not enough. Any next job assigned by a manager remains queued. App presence and kiosk heartbeat do not reset the timer.

The Labor activity audit records this as System automatically paused the job. It is not recorded as a worker or manager action, and it is not a clock-out.

When reviewing unexpected job history:

  1. Check whether Auto Tracking is enabled for that workflow.
  2. Check the effective warehouse auto-pause setting and timeout.
  3. Confirm the worker used the correct warehouse and operational record.
  4. Review job changes in the worker Timeline.
  5. Correct inaccurate completed entries with a note.

Troubleshooting

A Job Is Missing from Assignment

  • Confirm the warehouse.
  • Clear list filters.
  • Confirm the job is active.
  • Check whether the related system record is still active.
  • Confirm the manager can view Labor jobs.

A System Job Cannot Be Edited

This is expected. Open the related operational record or manage the supported Auto Tracking setting instead.

The Wrong Workers Appear on a Job

Open Working Now (opens the Cybership dashboard in a new tab), select the worker, and review their active entry. Use Switch Job, Finish Current Job, or a time-entry correction as appropriate.

Work History Is Missing

Confirm the viewer has Time Tracking access, check the selected warehouse, and move through the history pages if the entry is older.
