Totes

Create reusable picking containers, assign them to fulfillment work, and carry picked products to packing.

A is a reusable container used during . A scans it as the destination for picked for a . The tote keeps that picked work together through the and carries it, often in a , to . If the work needs review, the tote can be moved to a .

Totes are for picking workflows. They are not general receiving containers or long-term storage locations.

Go to ShipOS → Inventory → Totes (opens the Cybership dashboard in a new tab) to create, label, review, import, or export totes.

How Totes Move Through Picking

Create a tote and attach its scannable barcode label.
Assign the tote when creating or working through a picking session.
The picker scans each source location and product, then scans the tote as the destination for the picked quantity.
The tote keeps the picked stock connected to the correct fulfillment work while it moves to a packing station.
The packer scans the tote and packs its products into one or more packages.
After its picked stock has been packed, the empty tote returns to the available pool for another picking session.

If picked work needs investigation, move its tote to a hospital location instead of packing it. This is an exception-handling path, not a general storage workflow.

Tote Assignment by Batch Type

Picking workflow	Tote assignment
Multi Item Batch	Each fulfillment order normally has its own tote. When a picking cart is used, each tote occupies one cart position.
Single Item Batch (SIB)	The session can use one shared tote because its orders contain the same single product.

Create Totes

Open ShipOS → Inventory → Totes (opens the Cybership dashboard in a new tab).
Select Actions → Create Tote.
Enter a readable Name.
Select the Warehouse where the tote will be used.
Enter its Barcode, or leave the field empty to generate one automatically.
Select Create Tote.

Generate and attach a tote label so workers can scan the physical container during picking and packing.

Bulk Import and Export

Import Totes to create or update totes from a CSV file.
Export Totes to review or move tote records between environments.

Tote QA

When Tote QA is enabled, the packer scans the tote at the packing station and verifies its picked products before completing the packages. This check helps catch a product or quantity mismatch before shipping.

Hospital Totes

A picker can report a problem and move the affected tote to a hospital location. The tote and its picked stock stay together while the team investigates the issue. After resolution, use the appropriate hospital or putaway workflow to clear the tote before reusing it.
